ECONOMIC IMPACT OF THE VEGETARIAN LIFESTYLE

Often times nonvegetarians believe, proudly that the vegetarian lifestyle is deficient in nutrition especially proteins. As the saying goes, "pride goes before a fall," the said assertion that vegetarians lack nutrition, crumbles when met with well informed facts that most meat eaten came from plants nutrition.
Proponents of such assertion are further perplexed when told that the strongest animals are vegetarians, the most productive persons and animals are vegetarians. And that the healthiest diets are the vegetarian diet.
Now, how does nutrition, strength, productivity and health have to do with economic impact of the  vegetarian lifestyle?

The individual and society cannot function without food (nutrition) and the best nutrition comes from vegetarian diet. The vegetarian diet is easiest to afford and adequately fortified to nourish our body. Protein which the vegetarians are accused of lacking in their diet is only needed in food just for fifteen (15%) per cent of the total diet. This requirement is adequately met by an ordinary balanced vegetarian diet. Besides plant proteins, animal proteins are secondary, derived from plants.

However, in the world today, there are so many hungry people and a lot more starving to death. Yet, "the world's cattle alone consume quantity of food equal to the caloric need of 8.7 billion people. That is more than entire human population on earth." If more people go for vegetarian lifestyle, a lot more hungry people will be feed.

Strength is gotten from food (nutrition) energy. The vegetarian diet provides the most required energy for our body. According to M. G. Hardinge, MD, "a diet composed of foods prepared from the whole grains, cereals, from nuts, from a variety of roots and leafy vegetables, and from both fresh and cooked fruits will not only have adequate quantities of minerals and vitamins, but will also be found to contain a sufficient quantity of protein of high biologic value to meet all the demands of the individual."
To cap it, measurement of engine strength is done with the strength of a vegetarian animal, horse power.

Having the best nutrition and most energy from vegetarian diet is a precursor to productivity. It is only persons that are fed well that can have the psychology and brain power for productivity.
The vegetarian diet is more productive and curbs wastages. For instance, "same amount of land produces enough food to feed 20 vegetarians or one meat eater."
Again, "nearly 60% of water used goes to raising animals for food. It takes 25 gallons of water to produce a pound of wheat, 815 gallons of water to produce one pound of chicken, 1630 gallons of water to produce one pound of pork and a staggering 5000 gallons of water to produce one pound of beef."
The above monumental wastages of meat consumption stands out vegetarian diet as most economical to human needs.

It is only healthy people that can be better productive. Vegetarian diets "are naturally free of cholesterol - laden artery clogging animal products." Hence, "doctors and nutritionists widely recommend that people reduce their consumption of meat, high fat foods, and eggs"... (Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj).

Conclusively, whilst the vegetarian diet uses less resources to produce, but the meat diet does not only use more resources, it is needlessly wasteful.
